The day I grew and grew……

Late one stormy night, there was a crack of lightening and everything was not good in the world. Then chaos engulfed my life. Life as I knew it was over.

Bang!!!, a strike of lightening struck my room and I got a terrifying shock. I had been playing in my room with my electronic game boy. I had just got to level 43 of King Kong, when the screen went dead. The controller was jolted from my hands and I felt a burning coming from my hands, reaching up my arms towards my brain.

After the burning stopped everything went black like the dark sky outside, and I collapsed to the ground. I woke up, clutching my spinning head. Everything felt weird and new. I staggered to my mum, she saw what had become of me. She fainted.

Hair, hair, everywhere. Dark, thick, rough hair, like a gorilla. As I made my way to the bathroom, I noticed that my arms seemed to be dragging and I had a desire to swing from mums hallway chandeliers. When I made it to the bathroom, I grabbed the mirror with my ape like hands. A hairy, wrinkly, face, stared back at me.

A strangeness came over me. My legs started to extend. I could no longer see my body in the mirror, the room started to get smaller. My head hit the ceiling of the bathroom.

I suddenly had an urge for bananas. I knew just where to get them. Mrs Jones next door had a huge banana tree. With all my new strength I tore down the house to release me. I looked at Mrs Jones house; a huge King Kong game was blocking my path. I knew the only way to get to those bananas was to play the game.

The game was the hardest that I had every played. When I reached level 43, giant bananas appeared on the screen. I reached in to grab them, but my hand had disappeared into the screen.

With a slurping sound my whole hairy body was being sucked into the game. That was the day I grew and grew.

Letter to Santa

To Santa,
I am so glad that Christmas is coming. Every year me and my family go around the state and look at all the Christmas lights, they are so cool. My favourite part about Christmas is putting up the lights and Christmas tree, I love the decorations. Every year before Christmas night I leave out a glass of milk or glass of water. We always leave some biscuits out like chocolate biscuits, plain biscuits and many more. On Christmas morning we open the presents with my brother, dad and mum. Me and my brother love looking in our stockings but this year I want something different like make-up or a magazine. But whatever you give me I will still be happy.
P.S. Thank you Santa for everything you do.

Maths 14/11/08

Today in Maths, Marcus’ maths group did measuring. We measured snail tracks. After we had finished we had to add up all our snail tracks, my snail track was 66cm. Then you had to make your own snail track and colour your sheet. After that you’re done!

BFFL

Roses are red, violets are blue
I’ve never had friends so wonderful like you
We may have fights or disagree on some things
But our friendship bell will always ring
Best friends forever, BFF
We all have each other, that’s the best
It’s nice to have someone there
Who we can talk to, and to share our care
Sharing, caring, loving friends
Our friendship will never end
There is four of us altogether
BFF, now and forever

Book Character Day

On Wednesday the 3rd of September, 2008 the early years students at The Lakes dressed up as characters from their favourite books. Lots of people dressed up as their favourite character even some of the teachers. Some people were clowns, little red riding hood, fairies, cat in the hat, witches, princesses, Speaky MacGee, super heroes, Hannah Montana, wrestlers, Pippi Long Stocking(Kathryn), Dorothy, Star Wars characters, the Rainbow Fish (Merle) and lots more.

First thing in the morning we had a
book character parade in the gymnasium. When we were there we walked around in front of all the home groups and teachers. Some people wore their school uniform but they were still able to watch and some walked around as well. When the kids finished walking around, all of the teacher walked around, we all tried to get high fives form the teachers. After the parade we all got together, all the preps to year 4s, to take a photo.

We also did some other activities during the day including writing our character profile on the person we were dressed up as.
We had a RAD day.

Science Experiments

As part of our unit for this term, Our Changing World, we have been conducting some science experiments to see how things change. We made Super starch, which is a liquid and solid, we made play dough, which is a change you can't reverse, and we made a solid out of milk by adding vinegar and heating it in the microwave.
The last experiment we watched was the lemon rocket. Kathryn, the mad scientist, put lemon juice, water and bi-carb soda into a soft drink bottle and then sealed it with a cork. When the ingredients all mixed together it fizzed up and the cork flew up into the air. We watched it a second time and this time the cork went so high it hit the roof. It was a lot of fun.

Athletics Day

On Wednesday the 27th of August, 2008, The Lakes held their athletics day at Meadowglen Athletics track. We had four teams and they were, yellow- Evens, Blue – Beachley, Red – Jackson, Green-Rafter, and we all dressed up in our team colours.

At the athletics day many people won ribbons and everyone who was at the athletics day received a participation award. There were lots of events like high jump, discus, shot put, long jump, relay, triple jump, 800 metres, 200 metres, 100 metres, 1500 metres and some rotational activities for the preps to year 3s. For the first half of the day we did field activities and second half was track events. Some of the teachers ran a relay also, it was against the Cricket Victoria Teenagers who were helping out, the teenagers thrashed the teachers.

Teams got points for cheering for their team and having the best chant as well as for coming first, second, third and forth. At the end of the day the green house had the most points, so they won the athletics day.

By the end of the day we were all exhausted because we competed in so many events and cheered hard for our teams. Luckily we had a curriculum day the next day so we could rest.

The Official Opening of Our School

Here are some comments from yesterday's fantastic official opening of The Lakes P-9 School.

On Wednesday the 13th August John Brumby came to the Lakes P-9 School for the grand opening of our wonderful school. Sarah shook his hand and showed him around. It was a very exciting day. Jayden O

Yesterday it was the opening of our school and we had the Year 5-8's come to our school and they did a song. Mr Brumby came to our school and he was the one that opened the school. At play time, the band played and they sang a song like 'The Nutbush' and lots more songs too. Christina M

Yesterday we had our grand opening at The Lakes P-9 School. Danielle Green came and John Brumby the premier. Harry Jenkins and a lot of photographers were taking photos of the school. They looked through the Prep pod, the 1/2 Pod and also the Year 3/4 Pod. Then we all went to the gym and John Brumby said our school is one of the best schools in Victoria. We also had Jake, Jade and some of the Year 6/7/8's play other different instruments. It was really good! Kyle B

On the 13th August 2008 John Brumby came to The Lakes P-9. He came to open our school. Everyone tried to catch a glimpse of him. He is very nice. He read some of our student stories that we are writing ourselves. I had a great day! Julia D

Belonging

Students at The Lakes have been focussing on our school value of BELONGING!
Last week we completed a 'thinking key' task where children could choose a key to complete.

Key 1 - What should Goldilocks have done to make herself feel like she belonged in The Three Bears?
Key 2 - Imagine an alien visited planet Earth. Explain to him what belonging and friendship means.
Key 3 - What are the similarities between belonging to a sporting group and belonging at school?
Key 4 - If the answer is 'belonging' what could possible questions be?

Here is what Abhishek wrote for key 2:

Dear Alien,
When you come to Earth to stay at my house, I will tell you how to become someones friend like my friend.
First, make them Belong like tell them "You are my best friend."
Then, respect how they are or want to be.
Third (and the most important) try and do everything you have to do in friendship.
Finally, try and help them in everything they do.

Well done Abhi!
